Caroline Reed
Glass work
Caroline Reed is a glass artist who is influenced by the seascapes and geology of the Cornish coast which has captivated her since childhood.
The colours of the Cornish shoreline are integral to her work. Since her first holiday in Cornwall aged nine, she has been attracted to its beauty.
The rhythmic ebb and flow of the tides serve as a constant source of inspiration, influencing both the themes and techniques of her art. The colours and textures she builds into her glass are an emotional response to these landscapes.
Caroline uses two main glass-working methods: lost wax casting, which is predominately used for her glass rocks, and pâte de verre (a paste made from glass powders and grains) where glass is blended to make vessels that capture the ephemeral beauty and colours of the shoreline. Through her glass she aims to evoke the memories of her Cornish walks.
Her glass career began in 2016 when she studied Art & Design. She continued to develop her art through attending a number of master classes run by renowned glass artists, latterly studying Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art. Her graduate work was exhibited and ‘Commended’ by the Contemporary Glass Society and she has had her work published in the Just Glass book, ‘Brought to Light’. She is a member of the Contemporary Glass Society and a committee member of the Just Glass Society.
