Debbie Tearle
Painting
Debbie creates expressive abstract and semi abstract artwork using acrylics, inks, oils and cold wax medium. She experiments with a variety of techniques which enables her to be flexible and select the appropriate medium and tools for expressing a specific vision or idea in a series of paintings. Her works on paper include monotype prints and mixed media. Within her range of work she enjoys developing textural layers and exciting marks within her pieces.
Debbie’s work explores the relationship between nature and the individual. The Surrey Hills are a constant source of inspiration due to its variety of landscape. Her work is an expression of an emotional reaction felt in the moment and a deeper symbolic significance. Her work starts with careful observation and taking photographs of elements that inspire her. She uses these images and materials gathered on her walks in the landscape to decide on colour palettes and compositions. These stones, lichen, wood bark, seed heads and water are often used in the process of creating an artwork becoming tools not only to inspire but also to create her artwork. Recently she has begun exploring ways to incorporate natural inks and earth pigments into her work and is currently exploring ways to make more sustainable artworks.
Debbie has exhibited locally and in London in group shows, art fairs and galleries. She is a member of ArtCan, Wildwood Artists and her local group.
Debbie has become a regular co-curator of “In My Mind’s Eye” exhibition at West Horsley Place, West Horsley which showcases work of over 20 artists and ceramicists. She is currently a co-curator for the upcoming ArtCan exhibition “Fiesta!” at Inky Fingers Art Gallery, Hackney Wick.
Debbie advocates for the inclusivity of art and has been a volunteer at the Lightbox Gallery, Woking and currently is training to assist with Described Tours for the Visually Impaired.
