After a successful career as a graphic designer, Mel recently returned to art making where he is free to explore his own creative ideas without the restrictions of fulfilling a client’s brief.

His influences and inspiration are varied but reflect his work as a designer. He particularly likes to explore abstract elements – shape, colour harmony, contrasts, tone, line, pattern, geometry, typography, positive and negative space, grids and composition, as well as illusions of light and depth.

He is guided by his intuition and designer’s eye and believes finished pieces are similar to handwriting as they are an expression of personality.
